SINGAPORE’S LEADING PRIVATE TUITION AGENCY

HOW DO I REQUEST FOR A TUTOR?

You can request for a tutor by submitting our online Request Form.

Upon receiving your request, we will Whatsapp you to discuss your child’s academic needs. We will spend the next few hours shortlisting several suitable tutors within our database and network for your consideration.

Our working hours are from 9am to 9pm, seven days a week.

Tuition usually commences within one week after you have selected a tutor.

TRIAL LESSON

The paid trial lessons can be 1.5 hours or 2 hours per session.

CAN I CHANGE THE TUTOR AFTER THE TUITION BEGINS?

You just need to pay for the tuition session(s) that have been conducted. There will not be any extra charges for the change.

AM I ABLE TO VIEW THE TUTOR’S CERTIFICATES BEFORE THE FIRST LESSON?

You can request to see the hardcopies of certificates of your tutor to be presented to you during the first lesson.

The client acknowledges that it is his/her responsibility to verify the suitability, credentials and qualifications of any tutor with whom he/she engages.

HOW MUCH DO I PAY FOR YOUR TUTOR MATCHING SERVICES?

Tuition In Singapore is Singapore’s leading private tuition agency and our matching service is free for students/parents requesting for tutors. This is because our agency commission is charged to the tutor, not to you.

The client will pay to Tuition In Singapore half of the fees payable in the first 4 calendar weeks. This amount is the commission to Tuition In Singapore for matching the tutor to the client, and will be borne by the tutor.

Thereafter, the client will pay the tuition fees directly to the tutor.

If lessons are postponed during the first two weeks, the commission payable to Tuition In Singapore will be based on the tuition session conducted the subsequent week(s).

The tutor shall collect all fees due to the tutor from the parent after the two weeks. Tuition In Singapore will not assist in any recovery of fees.

PAYMENT OF FEES

The client is required to pay tuition fees only for the number of hours of lessons given by the tutor.

If you decide to stop the tuition after the first lesson, you are required to pay for only that lesson.

Please transfer the fee for that lesson to Tuition In Singapore and we will transfer the tutor’s fee to him/her.

Tutors are not authorized at any time to collect the payment on Tuition In Singapore’s behalf.

Tuition fees are to be paid every 4 weeks to the tutor, unless otherwise agreed between the client and the tutor.

PAYMENT MODE

We will provide our bank account information for you to make payment via internet banking or ATM transfer directly to Tuition In Singapore’s bank account.

If the client fails to pay us, Tuition In Singapore reserves the right to terminate the Assignment. This is in fairness to the tutor, who might need to give the available slot to another client if this Assignment does not materialize.

Once the payment is received, it will be acknowledged in the form of a receipt, issued to the payer (Parent/Requestor/Guardian) via Whatsapp, sms, email or other electronic communications medium. We will also provide details of the Tuition Assignment that can include: tutor’s name, hourly fee, date of commencement of tuition, subject(s), level, duration of each lesson and frequency, etc.

FIRST LESSON

Once the client accepts the tutor’s candidacy, the client will not be able to change the schedule of the First Lesson.

Clients are allowed to make changes in the schedule after the First Lesson is over. However, Tuition In Singapore hopes that this is not necessary as the tutor has already reserved that slot of time for you.

If you want to make changes in the schedule, please consult with your tutor to ask if he/she is able to change the schedule or not.

The tutor is to bring his/her identity document, academic transcripts/certificates and relevant documents for the First Lesson for verification purposes.

If the tutor is unable to conduct the First Lesson of a tuition assignment, the tutor must call Tuition In Singapore at least 3 business days before the actual lesson. If the tutor fails to notify Tuition In Singapore of his/her cancellation/postponement, an administrative charge of S$30 will be imposed on him/her.

If the tutor fails to contact Tuition In Singapore with a valid reason to inform us about the tutor’s absence from the lesson, the tutor’s profile at Tuition In Singapore may be blacklisted. This will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

LOCATION OF TUTORING LESSONS

Tutors will conduct lessons at the student’s residence unless otherwise specified and agreed upon by both the client and the tutor.

If the client has a request for the tuition to be conducted at another location (eg a friend’s home), Tuition In Singapore will ask if the tutor is able to accommodate the request.

Tuition In Singapore and the tutor will not be responsible if the given location is occupied or not available for use for the lessons and the officially scheduled timings will still be counted as a paid lesson.

TUTOR REASSIGNMENT OR CANCELLATION OF ASSIGNMENTS

There is no obligation or contract to complete a fixed number of lessons, except for the First Lesson.

If at any time the client is not satisfied with the tutor, the client may request a replacement or termination. However, the client is responsible for paying the fee for the number of lessons given prior to termination.

Tuition In Singapore will discuss separately with the client and the tutor regarding future tuition arrangements, and Tuition In Singapore will change the tutor for the client. There will not be any extra charges for the change and the client needs to pay just for the tuition session(s) that have been conducted.

If the client cancels a tutoring assignment before the tutor completes the agreed number of lessons for the first 4 calendar weeks, Tuition In Singapore assumes full claim to 50% of the tuition fees for the total number of lessons delivered in the month. For example, if the client had requested for 8 lessons per month, but the assignment was cancelled after the 5th session, Tuition In Singapore will be paid pro-rated commission for the 5 lessons conducted.

Tuition In Singapore will not be liable for any payment charges or issues arising from the cancellation of tuition assignments by the client.

If the client terminates the Assignment because the tutor is often late, skips lessons without valid explanations etc, the tutor will bear Tuition In Singapore’s full commission fee.

If the tutor cancels the Assignment after confirming acceptance (that is, the client’s contact information and address have been given to the tutor), the tutor will need to compensate the commission which amounts to 50% of the fees payable (as stated in the confirmation Whatsapp, sms, email or other forms of electronic communications messages) for the first 4 weeks.

If the tutor wishes to cancel a Tuition Assignment before the end of the first 4 calendar weeks, the tutor is to inform both Tuition In Singapore as well as the client at least 3 days before the next lesson date. Tuition In Singapore will recover our legal share of the one-time commission of 50% of the fee for the first 4 calendar weeks from the tutor. Tutors are encouraged to have a long-term commitment as the clients have vested their trust in them.

TERMINATION

The tutor will receive full or pro-rated payment for the number of lessons rendered, provided the tutor has complied with the Terms of this Agreement.

The client has the right to terminate the tuition if the tutor is unable to produce the documents certifying his/her credentials. In such cases, the tutor has to pay Tuition In Singapore the amount of money equivalent to the tuition fee for the day, as commission.

Here are some of the many happy students/parents and guardians who have hired
Chemistry tuition teachers from the best private tutor agency in Singapore

Chua Seok Yin

Nanyang Girls’ High School Integrated Programme

The Chemistry that we take at school is much broader and deeper than the syllabus taken by students in the G3 stream. Sometimes, I am frustrated that I get B’s while my cousin who is doing G3 Chemistry is always getting A’s. I started Chemistry tuition about 3 months ago, and my grades are more steady now. No longer regretting that I went to IP instead of mainstream schools.

5/5
Susilawati Abdul Kadir

Yuan Ching Secondary School

It was bad enough when I was getting borderline passes for Chemistry. Then I scored 34/100. My dad and I panicked. He didn’t scold me, and said that even he found the syllabus to be hard. We looked around a few tuition agencies, and the best Chemistry tuition profiles came from Tuition In Singapore. Mr Roslan has been a Chemistry tuition teacher for almost 10 years and had taught many weak students like me. He taught me how to link the information together so that my analytical skills became stronger. Then, he taught me exam techniques. After getting high C’s for about 2 months after he started teaching me, I scored a B in the 4th month.

5/5
Lau Xiu Chen

National Junior College

My previous JC Chemistry tuition teacher was terrible. Her teaching method confused me even more, and she would either be late and leave early, or had excuses for her no-show. She was always tell me that Chemistry tuition teachers like her who have a Master’s is rare, so we delayed changing tutors. When I contacted Tuition In Singapore, I was given profiles of 3 tutors with relevant Master’s, and 2 with PhD. I chose Ms Belinda. She is so, so much better than my previous A Level Chemistry tuition teacher.

5/5
Rex Lim

Serangoon Secondary School

Sometimes, I wonder if there would be less stress and more happiness in my life if I had taken Combined Science instead of Chemistry. Not that I am extremely weak in Chem, but I need to put in far more effort in Chem than for my other subjects. Ms Michelle is a former contract teacher at a good MOE school, and she has a First Class Honours degree in Chemical Engineering from NTU. When I make mistakes, she would guide me back to the better ways to answer. I am not afraid of asking her questions because I know she won’t scold me for not remembering or not knowing the information already.

5/5
Mathilda Wong

Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School (Secondary)

Science was my favourite subject in primary school, and even up to Sec 2. Pure Chemistry wasn’t what I expected, and I did quite badly in the first 3 months of Sec 3. My brother had taken his O Levels 2 years ago, and told me that I must start Chemistry tuition, otherwise I would never be able to catch up. Mr Andrew is now my Chemistry tuition teacher. He uses different examples to explain the things that I was confused about. He and I would laugh that his record was explaining the concept in 6 different ways before I could finally get it. Our hard work was worth it, because I scored B3 in Sec 3, and my grades had never dropped below that in Sec 3. Even managed to get an A for my O Levels.

5/5
Clarence Tan

Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) δ IB Programme

My dad is a pharmacist and my mum is a research scientist who is very good at Chemistry. I would feel really bad if I did not get a 7 for my Chemistry because the IB programme is expensive and I am benefitting a lot from it (as in personal development, hobbies, friends etc). Mr Jeff is a very encouraging Chemistry tuition teacher. He found that I am able to understand the technical content quite easily, but have difficulty applying the knowledge. I also make careless mistakes. We kept practicing until I overcame all that. I got my 7, and am now in Year 3 of my Pharmacy studies at a local university.

Learn effective study techniques

Our Chemistry tuition teachers are familiar with the most recent MOE syllabus, current exam requirements and latest marking schemes. Each tutoring session is customized to fit your learning preferences, homework objectives, and desired exam grades.

Optimum tutor matches

We will present Chemistry tuition teacher profiles to you only when they have a strong track record of helping their students’ grades improve by 10 to 30 marks.

Accurate matches for Chemistry tuition

The experienced full-time tuition coordinators who are in charge of your Chemistry tuition assignment hold Bachelor’s degrees from the best local universities and had attended good schools themselves. They majored in the same subject that you are seeking tuition in. Their team leaders are former MOE teachers.

Tuition In Singapore is therefore able to meticulously look for the qualities that a competent Chemistry tuition teacher must possess, in order for us to consider shortlisting him/her for your Chemistry tutoring assignment.

Compete against your classmates/cohort - and win

We live in a hyper-competitive world. Even if you don’t want to proactively compete, others do.

And the truth remains that you are in competition against a large number of students from your school and from other schools for the same desirable courses and spots at universities.

Demand will always outpace supply for the top (or better) academic institutions, classes, and courses.

Students with average grades sometimes have to enroll in less prestigious universities and majors.

Being in certain academic tracks often determines one’s career choices and opportunities, which in turn eventually affects the types of lifestyles we are able to lead.

Difficult exam questions - why it's happening

More and more students are able to correctly answer increasingly harder questions year after year.

You are likely to have come across questions that were much easier in the Ten Year Series than what students from other top schools are required to answer in their exams in recent months.

Because so many students are able to answer challenging questions, the creators of exams at schools/SEAB/MOE are forced to include increasingly more difficult questions in order to distinguish between the top and the average students in each cohort.

As a result, when it is your turn to take the exam, the questions will be substantially harder.

In a way, it’s a vicious circle.

Parents want to hire qualified private tutors to better prepare their children to compete against their peers since everyone is concerned that the exam questions will be more complex when it is their turn to take the exam. The students work harder in class and during tuition, and succeed in getting good grades.

Because the students were so well-prepared and achieve good results for the exams, the exam papers and results are then scrutinized.

After the exam papers and results are analyzed, it is determined that the questions are too simple because the students were so well-prepared and, on the whole, received decent grades as a result of hiring competent home tutors.

This then makes it necessary that the questions for the following year be increasingly harder in order for the exams to be able to distinguish who should get A’s or B’s.

And this makes it much more important for parents to hire effective private tutors in order for their children to catch up sufficiently.

Parents will do all in their power (as loving parents) to give their children that competitive edge because the goal is to do better than the other person rather than just to obtain a specific grade.

Also, it’s not just about keeping up with other students with better grades, but also to make sure their children don’t feel “stupid’’ or “left out’’ and end up really hating the subject just because others are so good at it.

For many students, the most effective confidence builders are good grades.

Get a private teacher who can focus on your child’s areas of weakness.

Encourage your child not to fall behind. It’s is crucial for their future.

Every topic in secondary school Chemistry is not equal in importance, and some chapters serve as a foundation for learning advanced topics.

Experienced Chemistry tuition teachers from Tuition In Singapore therefore identify and emphasize the core concepts that serve as crucial building blocks for Chemistry.

Tuition In Singapore has been the leading secondary school Chemistry tuition agency in Singapore since 2010.

Secondary 3 Chemistry builds on the fundamental concepts that were taught in Secondary 2 Science.

The Secondary 3 and Secondary 4 syllabus focuses on developing a deeper understanding of chemical reactions, atomic structure, and bonding.

New topics like acids and bases, organic chemistry and electrochemistry are also introduced.

Additionally, the mathematical component of Chemistry is emphasized, and you can expect to use mathematical formulas to solve problems involving stoichiometry and relative molecular mass.

The level of complexity and depth of understanding required in Secondary 3 and Secondary 4 Chemistry becomes progressively more elaborate, and you are expected to perform increasingly sophisticated laboratory experiments, as well as analyse and interpret data from experiments.

You then have to draw conclusions from the results.

To master Chemistry, you must have a crystal clear understanding of every topic and concept.

Some of the topics in the upper secondary Chemistry syllabus include matter (structures and properties), experimental chemistry, the particulate nature of matter, chemical bonding and structure, isomerism, chemical reactions, chemical calculations, mole concept, acid-base chemistry, reaction mechanisms, chemical kinetics, qualitative analysis, functional groups, atomic structure, redox chemistry, stoichiometry, patterns in the Periodic Table, chemical energetics, rate of reactions, chemistry in a sustainable world, chemical equations, organic chemistry, and maintaining air quality.

There is an expansive number of formulas, equations and elements to remember.

a level chemistry tutors

A Level Chemistry tuition
(JC1, JC2)

A Level Chemistry tutors

A Level Chemistry is inherently complex and wide-ranging, while requiring significant depth of knowledge.

Topics range from basic chemical principles to advanced organic chemistry and spectroscopy.

Tuition In Singapore has the largest and best-qualified team of A Level Chemistry tuition teachers in Singapore.

The curriculum is known to be challenging, with multifaceted concepts requiring exceptional problem-solving skills.

This can be intimidating for anyone who may not yet have a strong foundation in Chemistry or are struggling with the subject.

Students often struggle with A-Level Chemistry exams because there is a greater emphasis on exam technique: knowing how to answer questions is just as important as knowing the content.

To succeed in A-Level Chemistry, you need strong multi-step mathematical skills that also include algebra, calculus, and trigonometry.

The physical Chemistry topics like acids, bases and buffers are full of complex calculations that can a problem even for strong mathematicians.

You also need to have good scientific analytical skills, and the ability to think critically and creatively when encountering unanticipated real-life issues in the exam questions.

Additionally, A-Level Chemistry requires strong laboratory skills, including attention to detail, accuracy, and precision.

Good time management skills are also important, as the course involves a significant amount of coursework and independent study.

Typically, students struggle with the amount of content in A Level Chemistry.

This is to be expected with all A-Level subjects.

Don’t let this discourage you – you have two years to learn the content, and it’s manageable when you have a good revision plan and start early.

You will also need to remember two years’ worth of content for the exam.

During your SEC / O Levels, you may have found that it was quite easy to memorise topics, and this was enough for you to do well in the exams.

In A-Level Chemistry, this is usually not the case.

The MOE-SEAB requires you to apply the facts that you have learnt, instead of just writing down the facts that you have learned.

In JC 1 and JC 2, it is more important to understand a topic, rather than to just memorise it.

In SEC / O Level Chemistry, some concepts were simplified to make them more manageable for you at that time.

In A-Level Chemistry, you realize that these same themes have become much more complex than you may have previously learnt.

Also, it is not a given that if you did well at SEC / GCE O Level Chemistry that you will automatically and predictably do well in A-Level Chemistry.

Marking schemes dictate how your answer will be graded – and any small deviation or mistake might have a massive impact of causing you to lose valuable marks.

It is therefore vital that you know exactly what the question is asking for, and what the marking scheme is for that section.

Chemistry at A-Level is a challenging subject that requires a strong foundation in basic Chemistry concepts and a willingness to adaptably delve into complex topics involving chemical reactions and processes.

Students taking A-Level Chemistry should be prepared to put in a significant amount of time and effort, driven by a high level of commitment and dedication.

If you are aiming for top grades, you have to meet the challenges of the A-Level Chemistry exam questions.

When you are able to go through the entire Chemistry syllabus, learning and grasping all the concepts, and working your way through the questions provided by your JC teacher, you can study A-Level Chemistry by yourself at home.

Whilst the most hard-working students may find this possible, some of the less-able students may find that they need an experienced home tuition teacher to help them through the chapters that they have difficulty with.

With this in mind, you might want to consider what type of student you are.

Learning A-Level Chemistry independently would require much more effort than having a dependable private tutor guide you through the syllabus, so if you’re willing to put the effort in, independent study could be an option.

After all, the most hard-working students with good time management skills and motivation often do get better grades than students who are more intelligent but don’t put the work in.

You need to be aware of how much effort A levels (Chemistry and the other subjects) require.

Chemistry at A-Level is difficult, even for the ablest students – and a lot of hard work is needed.

If you want to give yourself the best chance possible of getting an A, you will want to put yourself in a more secure position by hiring a professional tutor to teach you.

It is possible to do really well in A-Level Chemistry.

Once you get your A for A-Level Chemistry, many universities will welcome your application.

A Level H2 Chemistry Tuition

A Level H2 Chemistry Tuition
(JC1, JC2)

A Level H2 Chemistry Tutors

Singapore’s A level H2 Chemistry is challenging because the curriculum is designed to be rigorous and comprehensive – covering a wide range of topics in depth.

Exam questions often require analytical skills and application of knowledge rather than rote memorization.

Students are expected to construct appropriate explanations and hypotheses that are evidential and logical.

The emphasis on practical skills and experimental techniques where students are required to sharpen their planning skills and conduct experiments by applying the theories that they have learnt also adds to the complexity of the subject.

The MOE-SEAB also wants students to perform at a very advanced caliber, contributing to the perception of the difficulty of A Level H2 Chemistry.

Tuition In Singapore is Singapore’s best A Level H2 Chemistry tuition agent.

A Level H2 Chemistry is very cumulative.

You will use the information in the first several chapters of the syllabus for the rest of your Chemistry curriculum and exams.

If you lose focus and mess up early, it is hard to catch up.

There is some degree of memorization required.

And Chemistry concepts can be rather abstract.

There is also a large amount of Math in almost every chapter, and lots of word problems where using the calculator will not help much because you need to have the correct significant figures and units.

Chemistry requires the units in your calculations to be matched.

It is easy to be confused by the vast number of compounds, whose names are different by only an alphabet or two.

Mishandle any little detail, and everything goes off the rails.

Much of the difficulty of A Level H2 Chemistry arises from its sheer content.

While this does not sound like much when spread over 2 years, each of the chapters are incredibly detailed.

Then, there is a race to finish the wide-ranging syllabus on time – in school, as well as during revision at home.

Practical sessions are also probably tougher for all students, especially if their understanding of the related topics is weak.

A Level H2 Chemistry is predominantly an application-based exam.

You are required to give short succinct answers that consist of certain keywords.

It is not enough to just memorize reactions and facts from learning about equilibria, stoichiometry, chemistry practical work, polymers, functional groups, transition metals, monomers, reaction pathways, compound classes, and enthalpy changes in reactions.

You have to pay special attention to ensuring that you can justify any larger Chemistry concept or result, using simpler and more basic ones.

The more descriptions you have for explaining phenomena, the greater the likelihood that you can remember more of them, and the more options you have in an exam situation.

The A Level exam questions are often a mix of different chapters and require you to piece together your knowledge by noting how one chapter supplements another – particularly in real-world scenarios.

You should be ruthlessly asking yourself questions like what is the significance of this word in the question, and if they did not use this word, how would that change your response.

By doing this, you will very quickly be able to see patterns in the questions, and subsequently the patterns in the kind of answers the exam markers expect you to give.

Your answering techniques will then be strictly aligned with what is required in the marking scheme, and you will be able to score full marks for those questions.

During the practice sessions when you are solving questions, reflect on your answers.

Ask yourself why did you get the answer wrong, or give an answer that did not result in full marks.

Was it because of lack of knowledge, or was it due to faulty reasoning?

Did you misread the questions?

What do you need, to learn to improve?

Then – at a steady pace – consistently study the syllabus area you need, to improve using the honest answers you have just given to yourself.

You will be able to discern a pattern of your weak areas, and this gives you a realistic battle plan as to how to effectively combat your weaker areas.

Then, practice and continuously revise previous concepts to reinforce understanding.

And practice again, until you have mastered that weakness and have gained diverse perspectives, while acclimatizing to the exam conditions.

A Level H2 Chemistry is a challenging subject that requires an intense work ethic, effective study tactics and a deeper conceptual understanding.

Whether your exam preparation is geared toward Practical, Multiple Choice Questions, long-answer questions, structured questions, or free-response questions, Chemistry is an incredibly helpful subject in which to build a strong foundation of knowledge, to prepare for further Chemistry courses in university.

When you enjoy Chemistry, then good grades are inevitable.

Every subject has its own set of challenges and though A Level H2 Chemistry might seem like one of the hardest H2 subjects, there are still convincing reasons why you can score an A – once you start proper preparations early.

International Baccalaureate IB Chemistry Tuition

International Baccalaureate IB Chemistry Tuition

International Baccalaureate IB Chemistry Tutors

Success in IB Chemistry requires concentration and hard work – whether you are taking it at Standard Level (SL) or at Higher Level (HL).

The best IB Chemistry tuition teachers in Singapore are part of the Tuition In Singapore team.

IB Chemistry exams are difficult to study for.

You have to understand the extensive content, build on exam-specific skills, and develop excellent study strategies that focus on your individual goals, challenges, and strengths.

When questioned during the exams, IB Chemistry students must be able to clearly explain concepts and competently demonstrate their understanding of how to use formulas and solve real-world issues.

Key principles of International Baccalaureate IB Chemistry include theoretical and practical understanding of thermochemistry, data analysis, analytical chemistry, reactivity, electrochemistry, Periodic Table, atomic structure, equipment design, physical chemistry, energy changes in chemical reactions, global chemistry challenges, chemical reactions, reaction dynamics, lab skills, kinetics and equilibrium, redox processes, organic chemistry, acids and bases, bonding, thermodynamics, equilibrium calculations, methods to identify unknown substances, and kinetics.

Memorizing facts and formulas is helpful, but not sufficient.

You need to frequently practice on past exam papers – so that you can anticipate and respond to various question types – and marking schemes to understand and revisit the question formats and expected answers.

Students may find IB chemistry SL and HL to be intimidating.

Teachers and examiners have created questions to evaluate students’ abilities to apply information in different circumstances and grasp the all the syllabus topics in IB Chemistry course.

Students must learn to read the diagrams, tables and graphs that IB teachers and examiners use, to demonstrate that they have mastered many sophisticated content themes.

Many students struggle with the Math-heavy questions, and need rigorous problem solving abilities when encountering formidable topics.

An excellent IB Chemistry tutor can personalize and optimize your learning plan and schedule.

More than 90% of tutors from Tuition In Singapore are graduated tutors. Over 20% of them have a Master’s, PhD or are teaching at international schools.

Our strict shortlisting process ensures only the top list of tutors make it to you.

What are the main differences between the SL and HL IB Chemistry exams and syllabus?

SL has a lighter workload than HL, but fewer chances to get good marks.

Instead of delving into themes, SL students must demonstrate fundamental understanding and problem-solving.

Importantly, most questions at this level will involve factual recollection rather than critical thinking or active problem solving – strong memory skills will come in very handy, when you are taking SL IB Chemistry.

Because of topic and concept difficulty, HL scores are higher.

Students have to display better understanding and active problem solving while dealing with new information.

This allows HL Chemistry students to make connections between seemingly unrelated concepts, and to constructively solve enigmatic difficulties.

Tuition In Singapore can teach you all you need, to get a 7 for you IB Chemistry.

International Baccalaureate IB SL Chemistry Tutors

International Baccalaureate IB SL Chemistry Tuition

Most students struggle with Paper 2, which is considered the most difficult and rigorous part of the examination in almost any science subject in the IB curriculum.

It is full of structured, written response questions that require proof of calculations and the use of various formulas.

Calculators are allowed, as well as the data booklet.

Paper 2 is considered much harder because questions involve written responses, under tight timed conditions.

The short-answer and extended-response questions test your resourcefulness when making connections between multiple topics within the syllabus, as well as your ability to apply theoretical, practical, and mathematical knowledge.

The data-based questions test your data analysis skills.

If you feel like a certain paper or theme is more difficult for you, spend more time practicing this concept.

Each year’s exam questions contain associated rubrics and mark schemes that show answers to questions from every paper.

Mark schemes tell you what the right answer is supposed to be, and also the best method to arrive at such an answer, through working and scratch work.

Therefore, if a question asks you to solve a problem using a specific formula, it is best to comply with the rules so that you can earn the maximum number of points.

When you prepare for your exams by studying previous papers, you must also study the rubrics so that you can understand what is expected from you when you answer the questions.

In the process of studying for Paper 2, you might find that they have concurrently also prepared for the other 2 papers.

When you start early to prepare for the exams, you will have more time to overcome your weak areas, and to revisit content that was previously perplexing.

International Baccalaureate IB HL Chemistry Tutors

International Baccalaureate IB HL Chemistry Tuition

International Baccalaureate IB HL Chemistry Tutors

IB HL Chemistry students are expected to write university-level research papers by the end of the course.

HL in the International Baccalaureate programme covers Chemistry topics in greater depth, and with more emphasis on analytical and critical thinking skills.

It also includes additional topics, such as organic chemistry and biochemistry, that are not covered in the SL course.

The challenging and rewarding coursework is heavy, and academic expectations from the IBDP examiners are higher.

Classes are designed in such a way that when you enter university as a science major, you are equipped with the foundational knowledge needed to boost the start of the course.

According to the Royal Society of Chemistry, over 96% of all manufactured goods are directly influenced by the chemical industry, highlighting the importance of the Chemistry in our everyday lives.

The comprehensive skills and knowledge gained through the study of Chemistry are highly transferable and can be applied to a wide range of fields.

Tuition In Singapore has the biggest team of specialist IB HL Chemistry tutors in Singapore.

While IB HL Chemistry might seem like a formidable task to score well for, it is still very possible for you to score the maximum 7 marks in the grueling exam once you develop the appropriate study skills.

Problem-solving is a fundamental skill in IB HL Chemistry.

Whether or not you will score a 7 in your exam will depend on your ability to solve Chemistry problems.

You will therefore need to make sure that active problem-solving is at the centre of your study routine.

Good scores don’t come overnight, and a solid foundation can be established one step at a time.

Even from Day 1, learning and being on top of all your concepts will prevent the situation from turning into a snowball of memorisation and stressful panic.

Key principles of Chemistry include the in-depth understanding of atomic structure, equilibrium, neutrons, acids and bases, protons, organic chemistry, electrons, the Periodic Table, stoichiometry, periodicity, chemical bonding and structure, energetics and thermochemistry/thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, carbon-containing compounds, periodic trends, transition metal chemistry, the chemistry of the atmosphere, biochemistry, materials science, environmental chemistry, the structure, properties, and reactions of organic molecules,

Each of these topics is covered in detail, with a focus on developing a deep understanding of fundamental Chemistry principles and their applications.

You will need these when solving problems, and the sub-topics within these foundational concepts will help you to learn other more advanced content and lessons in the future.

For example, solving for the moles of different compounds might initially seem like a straightforward application of simple formulas.

You will however soon encounter complex problems that require multiple formulas to be applied in order to reach a satisfactory answer.

Students need to develop critical thinking skills to understand the subject matter fully.

The course is mathematically demanding, requiring students to manipulate equations and solve problems.

Because of this, memorisation will only help you to a limited extent because it is difficult (though not entirely impossible) to memorise every permutation of Chemistry problems that the IBDP examiners might structure for your exams.

Learning to understand the different formulas and being able to identify in which areas they should be applied might take up extra effort at the start.

It will however give you a proper doorway to solving complex questions in the future, effectively saving you much more time in the long term.

Creating mind maps when you are learning new and important information is another good way to remember everything you are studying, and to ultimately improve your retention.

Mind maps train you to write down information that you have already internalised, and give you a comprehensive set of customized notes to use when you are preparing for your exams.

Instead of having to look through hundreds of pages in your textbooks whenever you need to revise for a big test – especially when you have multiple years of content to frantically go through – it is a lifesaver when you have high quality condensed notes that remind you of essential concepts right before your exams.

The IB HL Chemistry syllabus is not easy.

To do well, you need to put in productive effort when studying and understanding all the content, while preparing according to the syllabus, grading system and exam format.

As long as you are committed, diligent, and always willing to learn, you can certainly score an A for IB HL Chemistry – and have some fun learning memories in the process.

This expert will patiently explain each of the areas that you are puzzled about, so that you gain enough clarity in order to be able to link all of the crucial chapters and content. This is vital, because most of the exam questions now require strong application skills. If you are not able to link what you have learned and apply the information to real-life problems, you will lose valuable marks and score only borderline passes.

2. Use up-to-date Chemistry resources

To do well in Chemistry, you are expected to assimilate and recall a large amount of scientific content that is taught across topics that include matter (structures and properties), experimental chemistry, the particulate nature of matter, chemical bonding and structure, isomerism, chemical reactions, chemical calculations, mole concept, acid-base chemistry, reaction mechanisms, chemical kinetics, qualitative analysis, functional groups, atomic structure, redox chemistry, stoichiometry, patterns in the Periodic Table, chemical energetics, rate of reactions, chemistry in a sustainable world, chemical equations, organic chemistry, and maintaining air quality. Hire a respected tutor who can thoroughly explain all interlinked MOE-SEAB Chemistry content using summary sheets, mind maps and practice exercises, so that you are armed with the correct knowledge and answering techniques before you enter the exam hall.

3. Chemistry can be easy to score in

Just as there are students struggling in Chemistry, there also are students who manage to score A’s. Some of these A-scoring students might have a natural flair in the Sciences. 4. Optional passion for Chemistry

Whether or not you want to develop a genuine interest in Chemistry and turn it into a life-long hobby, you need to do well in Chemistry exams first. We have all the expert resources and resource persons you need in order to score your A (now, you see why you don’t have to aim for a B).

Choosing the right Chemistry tuition

What are the 7 most important criteria to look for in a Chemistry tutor?

1. Qualifications and competence in teaching Chemistry

A good Chemistry tuition teacher has a solid education. They have themselves gone through rigorous coursework and original research, and had acquired field experience, where they had opportunities to demonstrate their mastery of – and ability to apply – the subject material that they have covered throughout their Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD. They have accumulated materials and study tips that they will now teach you. They are able to show you exciting discoveries and exam-related knowledge during Chemistry tuition lessons.

2. Familiarity with the latest MOE syllabus and exam requirements/marking scheme

The best educators aren’t just interested in teaching – they also have an infectious passion for Chemistry, which is reflected in their enthusiasm and engagement as Chemistry tuition teachers. Education is an intensely collaborative field by nature, involving constant interplay between students, teachers, family members and tuition teachers – all of whom want the student to do better in Chemistry. Our tutors deliver invaluable insights, reminding their students of the real-world challenges they will be facing when learning new information and when answering complicated exam application questions using the current MOE syllabus. The latest exam marking scheme rewards students with superior critical thinking skills that extract relevant data, analyze possible outcomes, and coherently present the information within tight time constraints.

3. Quality experience in teaching students of similar levels

As seasoned educators who each have between 2 to over 30 years of Chemistry tuition teaching experience, our tutors had taught an extraordinarily wide range of students. Tuition In Singapore will show you profiles of tutors who have taught similar academic levels (eg Sec 3 or JC2 etc), as well as competence levels (eg weak G3 mastery or consistent A-scoring IP student) as the student, so that the Chemistry tutor can teach appropriate content and beneficial study methods starting from the first lesson.

4. Ability to provide additional learning resources for Chemistry

With years of successful experience in teaching students from a variety of schools, professional Chemistry tuition teachers from Tuition In Singapore can identify which are the most useful materials that their Chemistry students must currently use, based on their prevailing skills and grade aspirations. The tutor will then guide the student on the expected outcomes from practicing these worksheets/exam papers, and teach them how to construct the type of notes that are perfected by students who are able to score A’s. Our students will learn how to be innovative, think outside the box, and be able to derive novel solutions to uncommon challenges that appear in exam questions. We thoroughly familiarize our students to be prepared for a wide spectrum of question types in their exams. These methods are imperative roadmaps for how weaker or even high-scoring Chemistry students can achieve higher grades.

5. Devoted focus and committed guidance

Chemistry tuition teachers from Tuition in Singapore make efforts to understand the root issue that is causing a student to fall behind their peers, perform more poorly than they used to, or lose enthusiasm for doing well in Chemistry. We seek feedback, encourage honesty, provide ways for students to contact our tutors easily, and are attentive during lessons because we want to effectively diagnose and help our students overcome their unique obstacles, struggles, and challenges. Being empathetically adaptable and patiently flexible allows us to continuously evaluate what is working for our students – who might sometimes be affected by stress or indecision. When our students develop a growth mindset, they will be convinced that challenges and obstacles in Chemistry are not insurmountable nor overwhelming.

6. Ability to spot weaknesses quickly

Our students come from diverse backgrounds and have different skill sets and challenges. They also have heavy workloads from school for Chemistry and the other subjects that they are taking. Our tutors have sterling credentials and knowledge that can help their students overcome weak skills, refine strong ones or develop new abilities. Students’ needs change over time. With clear communication, we productively learn about our students, how they evaluate and remember information, and what challenges or motivates them most. We have robust problem-solving skills to address a wide range of impediments to learning, while keeping them organized, engaged, and on-task.

7. Substantial track record of helping their students achieve exam success

Three easy ways to ensure successful grade improvement:

Reduce tutoring requirements

The availability of tutors and their qualifications affect tuition costs.

The more requirements you have, the harder it is to find a tutor who will respond to your assignment.

The usual specifications include things like gender, a mix of subjects, a budget, a schedule, etc.

You should shortlist the requirements that are most crucial to you.

For instance, if you only want female tuition teachers, your options are cut in half.

It is also a good idea to hire two different tutors to teach two distinct subjects, even if they themselves scored As in both of the subjects you require tuition for.

This is because most tuition teachers are really skilled at teaching just one subject.

Major national exams

Higher hourly fees are often quoted by tutors who specialize in or have extensive experience teaching students preparing for the high-stakes PSLE, SEC, GCE O Levels, and GCE A Levels.

This is because there has to be a lot of work put into exam preparation, material revision, and, if necessary, getting the student to unlearn study habits that have been resulting in poor grades in past years.

Good tutors typically avoid teaching graduating-year students after the March holidays since they will need to rush and  intensely cram a lot of material within a short period of time in order to appropriately prepare the student.

Parents therefore prefer to choose a dependable Chemistry tuition teacher at least a year before the important National Examinations.

Budget

We encourage our clients to be realistic with the tuition budget that they would like to work within.

The hourly tuition rates are neither regulated nor changed by Tuition In Singapore.

Tutors with proven track records that consistently deliver A grades, tuition teachers with many years of experience, and MOE teachers are already accepting assignments within a certain hourly rate.

These tutors are unlikely to accept prices that are lower their existing rates due to the constant high demand for their services and waiting lists.
